Success Story URA

URA Keeps its Mission of Making Singapore a Great City to Live,

Work & Play by Enhancing Knowledge-sharing of its Staff at the

Convenience of their Office and Homes

Client Name :
Urban Redevelopment Authority (Singapore)

Implementation Date : 11th June 2009

Challenge

  • URA has an existing Oracle Database where their in-house learning resources are stored.
  • The agency needed to provide its staff a platform to share resources and knowledge with other staff and to provide elearning capabilities to staff in the convenience of their office and home.
  • The learners will access the websites, complete their work and send it to the teachers through email.
  • The course creators had to acquire web skills in order to customise the web pages.
  • With these scenarios, collaboration and sharing was very challenging. Cost and time is also spent as users need to gain technical knowledge to add or edit content.

Solution

  • In June 2009, URA appointed ACP to deliver an Integrated Learning Management System.
  • Moodle was introduced by ACP since URA were in the practice of developing their own content and elearning assignments; there was no concern about ready content.
  • Moodle is also a platform that they could own.
  • The agency needed a platform like that allowed all the contents developed and stored together.
  • The solution also has a single platform to connect all the users.
  • The features readily available in Moodle for use was an added advantage to them since they were only in practice of sharing files and had no means of interactive activities.

Results

  • ACP successfully integrated Moodle LMS into URA’s Oracle system
  • With the Moodle platform, the course creators and learners at URA can quickly adapt to the technology even with simple computer knowledge.
  • Learning and collaboration bubbled up allowing the agency to hone in on areas of knowledge/skills that need improvement and enhancement.
  • The development of other modules also automated some of their manual processes thereby improving efficiency
  • Total cost of ownership is reduced drastically as Moodle is an open-source solution.
  • Cost of time and effort has been dramatically improved as sharing files and content has never so easy.
